Juan Carlos Ferrero is expected to return to the tennis coaching ranks in 2027.

The former world No. 1 spoke with Spanish media outlet Movistar+ during Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Elche in a La Liga match at Manuel Martínez Valero Stadium in Elche on Tuesday.
“This year, I’m very relaxed,” Ferrero said, translated from Spanish. “I’m enjoying my family and preparing for what’s coming next year. I think I’m going to come back on the tennis tour, but I can’t say with whom.”
The 46-year-old previously coached Carlos Alcaraz since the seven-time Grand Slam champion was a teenager. Their surprising and highly-publicized split came this past December.

“After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to bring our chapter together as coach and player to an end,” Alcaraz posted on social media at the time. “Thank you for turning childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was barely a kid, and throughout all this time you’ve accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the court. And I have thoroughly enjoyed every step of it so much with you.
“We have made it to the top, and I feel that if our sporting paths had to part, it should be from up there. From the place we always worked for and always aspired to reach…. You have made me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And something I value greatly: I have enjoyed the process. I will remember that, the journey we have taken together.”
“Today is a difficult day,” Ferrero wrote. “One of those when it’s hard to find the right words. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when there are so many shared experiences behind it. I wish I could have continued. I am convinced that good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again.”
It is unlikely, however, that Alcaraz and Ferrero link back up. The rumor mill is already running rampant, with much more realistic scenarios involving Spain’s Rafael Jodar, Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, and — if Darren Cahill calls it quits — Italian world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

who’s it gonna be?
What’s the goss? Be hilarious if it’s Sinner in 27.
