The 19-year-old Brazilian warmed up for the BNP Paribas Open by winning MGM Slam 10-point tiebreaker tournament in Las Vegas and he now finds himself in the last 32 of the season’s first Masters 1000 event. Fonseca opened with a 7-6(2), 6-4 defeat of Raphael Collignon before ousting Karen Khachanov 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4 from two match points down on Saturday.
The world No. 35 is getting night-session treatment on Sunday for a second meeting with Paul, who won their only previous encounter 7-6(7), 7-6(3) last spring in Madrid. An in-form Paul has already won 12 matches this year, including a runner-up performance in Delray Beach and a 6-1, 6-2 whitewash of Zizou Bergs on Friday. With the 24th-ranked American playing great and also having the rest advantage, he should have the upper hand in this matchup.

Denis Shapovalov vs. (2) Jannik Sinner
Sinner and Shapovalov will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers on Sunday. They split their two previous encounters; Shapovalov won a five-setter in round one of the 2021 Australian Open before Sinner prevailed 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 at the 2025 U.S. Open.
A far more lopsided affair is likely in store for Tennis Paradise. Shapovalov somehow managed to win his first two matches in three sets, but he did not play well against either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Sinner, on the other hand, eradicated Dalibor Svrcina 6-1, 6-1 on Friday night. The second-ranked Italian is now 12-3 lifetime in Indian Wells and has reached the semifinals in back-to-back appearances. Count on this being one-way traffic for Sinner.
