Indian Wells Friday picks, including Dolgopolov vs. Dancevic and Johnson vs. Granollers

Friday

Simone Bolelli vs. Thomaz Bellucci: Both men are making a quick transition from Davis Cup, but Bellucci also has to make a surface move from clay and he lost Brazil’s decisive fifth rubber against Argentina on Monday. Bolelli in 3.

Alexandr Dolgopolov vs. (Q) Frank Dancevic: Dancevic’s fragile body endured a three-setter in qualifying on Wednesday. Dolgopolov was a 2014 Indian Wells semifinalist. Dolgopolov in 2.

Andrey Golubev vs. Dustin Brown: Rarely is Golubev the more solid of two players, but that is the case when Brown takes the singles court. Unless Brown serves incredibly well, Golubev should advance. Golubev in 3.

Igor Sijsling vs. (Q) Filip Krajinovic: This will be for the right to lose to Rafael Nadal in round two. Confidence from two qualifying wins may be enough to give Krajinovic an edge. Krajinovic in 3.

Steve Johnson vs. Marcel Granollers: It feels like Johnson plays Ivo Karlovic every week. Count of him playing Karlovic again on Sunday. Johnson in 2.

Sam Querrey vs. Sergiy Stakhovsky: Querrey’s recent exploits include nursing an elbow injury an appearing on Millionaire Matchmaker. Stakhovsky would prefer to play indoors, but in general his form has been good of late. Stakhovsky in 3.

Denis Istomin vs. (WC) Austin Krajicek: Krajicek is really starting to make a name for himself, but Istomin has way more experience at the Masters 1000 level. Istomin in 3.

Jack Sock vs. Yen-Hsun Lu: Sock has missed all of 2015 so far due to hip surgery. Lu is in mediocre form at best, but his preparation for Indian Wells still must have been better than Sock’s. Lu in 3.

Mikhail Youzhny vs. (Q) Victor Hanescu: Youzhny spent much of his practice time on Wednesday teaching his son how to play tennis. It is his own game that needs a ton of work right now. Hanescu in 3.
