Houston R2 preview and prediction: Isner vs. Brouwer

John Isner and Gijs Brouwer will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they meet in round two of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship on Wednesday night.

Isner is slowing down a bit at 37 years old, but he always done his best work at home in the United States and this really is a home match for him as a resident of Texas (albeit Dallas, not Houston). The former University of Georgia star has reached the Houston final three times–including last season–and won it once (2013).

Brouwer played well in Rotterdam and Marseille during the indoor swing, but he has lost four of his last six matches and during this stretch has not defeated anyone in the top 100. Look for Isner in to win in straight sets, probably with one tiebreaker–and maybe two.

Pick: Isner in 2
