Lorenzo Musetti and Alexander Bublik, the top two seeds in Hong Kong, won’t have home-court advantage in the quarterfinals on Friday. They are facing Coleman Wong and Jerry Shang, respectively.
(1) Lorenzo Musetti vs. (WC) Coleman Wong
Musetti and Wong will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers for the second time at the Bank of China Open when they meet again on Friday, this time in the quarterfinals. They faced each other during first-round action in 2024, when Musetti cruised 6-4, 7-5.
Both players have made significant strides since then, with Musetti establishing himself as a top-10 player after making a Nitto ATP Finals appearance last year. The seventh-ranked Italian kicked off his 2026 campaign in victorious fashion, although he required three sets to fend off Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Wong is up to No. 150 in the rankings but should be on the fast track to the top 100 based on his 2025 performance and his level so far this season. The Hong Kong native earned his spot in the last eight by ousting Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-5 and Gabriel Diallo 1-6, 7-5, 7-5. This won’t be an easy matchup for Musetti, but the top seed’s variety will test Wong in ways that he did not see when Navone and Diallo were on the other side of the net.

(WC) Jerry Shang vs. (2) Alexander Bublik
Not unlike Wong, Shang thoroughly enjoys playing in front of the home crowd. The 20-year-old from China captured his first ATP title at the 2024 Chengdu event and he reached the semis in each of his two previous trips to Hong Kong. Shang is off to another strong start at this 2026 tournament, as he dismissed Francisco Comesana 6-4, 6-4 and Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 6-4 earlier this week.
Up next for the left-hander is a fourth showdown against Bublik, who trails the head-to-head series 2-1. The 11th-ranked Kazakh prevailed 6-4, 6-1 at the 2024 Indian Wells Masters before Shang came out on top later that year at the U.S. Open (in five sets) and in Chengdu (in a second-set tiebreaker). Of course, that was all before Bublik’s 2025 breakthrough in which he became an entirely different player — mainly from a mental standpoint, as the talent has always been on display. A 6-3, 6-3 rout of Botic van de Zandschulp on Thursday indicates that the 28-year-old is not about to slow down in 2026.
