With Andrey Rublev’s loss to Valentin Royer on Saturday, Medvedev is the highest seed left at the Hangzhou Open as he bids for his first title since the spring of 2023 in Rome. It would be an ironic development given that this is the 29-year-old Russian’s first tournament since splitting from longtime coach Gilles Cervara. The 2025 campaign has been a huge disappointment for Medvedev, but he at least played well in his Hangzhou opener by disposing of Nishesh Basavareddy 6-2, 6-3.
Up next for the world No. 18 on Sunday is a quarterfinal contest against Wu, who trails the head-to-head series 2-0. Medvedev got the job done 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 at the 2022 U.S. Open and 6-3, 6-2 earlier this summer in Washington, D.C. The oft-injured Wu had earned just two ATP-level match victories in 2025 prior to this week, but he has advanced with a 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 win over Adrian Mannarino and a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Sebastian Korda. Especially for someone who is such a physical question mark, it may not be easy to recover from those thrillers.

(4) Corentin Moutet vs. Tomas Martin Etcheverry
Moutet and Etcheverry will be squaring off for the third time in their careers and for the third time this season. Both of their previous encounters have gone Etcheverry’s way; he prevailed 6-3, 7-6(1) in Rio de Janeiro and 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in Monte-Carlo.
Even though both of these guys are all-court players, clay is definitely a favorable surface for Etcheverry in this matchup. The story could be different now that they are making a move to outdoor hard courts. Moutet’s summer featured a runner-up performance in Mallorca and semifinal showing in Washington, D.C., and he has continued his winning ways this week with a 6-7(1), 6-3, 7-6(3) defeat of fellow Frenchman Arthur Cazaux on Saturday. Etcheverry has done well to beat Damir Dzumhur and Rinky Hijikata, but the competition level gets tougher with an in-form Moutet on the other side of the net.

I’d say Meddy hardly played that well vs. a poor player in Basavareddy, a player who has won barely any tour level matches this year and Meddy should be rolling even at his worst, Wu is certainly feeling confident playing at home upsetting Korda, Wu is back and healthy now so there are no concerns, he’s been healthy since May, even though Meddy did well in a recent match vs. Wu, his confidence is in the toilet right now and Wu is a far more quality player than Meddy’s 1st, Wu is playing at home too, I’m even leaning for Wu in 2, but I’ll go Wu 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
