Seeking matches and confidence, Andrey Rublev is playing the week before Roland Garros. Rublev will kick off his Hamburg campaign against Damir Dzumhur on Monday, while Marcos Giron meets Roberto Bautista Agut.
(3) Andrey Rublev vs. Damir Dzumhur
Rublev and Dzumhur will be going head-to-head for the sixth time in their careers when they clash in round one of the Hamburg Open on Monday. All five of their previous meetings have gone Rublev’s way, but they have faced each other only once since 2018 and they have not squared off since 2023. The Russian is 11-2 in total sets against Dzumhur after most recently prevailing 7-5, 6-3 on the red clay of Banja Luka two years ago.
Dzumhur mostly disappeared from the main tour from 2020 through 2024, but some Challenger success resurrected his ranking and now he owns 11 ATP-level match victories in 2025. The 69th-ranked Serb’s clay-court swing includes a semifinal showing in Bucharest and a third-round performance in Madrid. Rublev is mired and an awful slump, but he has been a force at ATP 500s throughout his career and he won’t care at all that a Grand Slam is on the immediate horizon. He needs matches. A motivated world No. 17 should take care of business as he tries desperately to restore some momentum.

Marcos Giron vs. Roberto Bautista Agut
Bautista Agut seems to be slowing down in a major way at 37 years old and he has a very tough assignment on his hands in the Hamburg first round with Giron on the other side of the net. The Spaniard won both of their previous encounters in 2022, but that was when he was still in close to peak form–now he is No. 56 in the world. Bautista Agut is 5-12 in 2025 after getting blown out by Tommy Paul 6-1, 6-4 in the Rome second round.
This season has been a much different story for Giron, whose Rome victories over Gabriel Diallo and Taylor Fritz gave him 14 match wins in 2025. The 45th-ranked American is by no means at his best on clay, but he has learned to play on it–and with plenty of success–in recent years. Fortunately for Giron, Bautista Agut would also prefer to play on a faster, lower-bouncing court. All signs point to the player in far superior form getting the job done on Monday.
