Already the record holder with three Eastbourne Open titles, Taylor Fritz continued his mastery of the lawns at this ATP 250 tournament and captured title No. 4 by beating fellow American Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
“I don’t know what to say, there’s something about Eastbourne,” Fritz said during the trophy ceremony. “I just love it here. Every year I come here and it’s such a good week. This year I had to fight through my matches. I feel like I’ve really upped my level.”
The world No. 5, who beat both Joao Fonseca and Marcos Giron 7-5 in the third set earlier this week, is 17-2 lifetime in Eastbourne. This marks the 10th title overall in his career.
At the Mallorca championships, Tallon Griekspoor battled past Corentin Moutet 7-5, 7-6(3) for his third ATP title and first since ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2023. Moutet was playing in his second final, having previously lost at the 2020 Doha tournament.
“I think I served great in the tiebreak,” Griekspoor assessed. “I served great all match. He made it very, very difficult for me. Finals are not easy to play, but (I’m) happy with the win.”
The 34th-ranked Dutchman now heads to Wimbledon, where he faces none other than Brooksby in the opening round. In the bottom half of the draw with Carlos Alcaraz, they will have only one full day off before they take the court on Monday. Fritz will also play on Monday, when he goes up against dangerous grass-courter Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Moutet awaits Francisco Comesana on Tuesday.
