Stefanos Tsitsipas endured a scare in the French Open first round, but he got past Jiri Vesely in a fourth-set tiebreaker and then crushed Roberto Carballes Baena in straights.
Up next for Tsitsipas on Friday is Schwartzman, whose appearance in the third round is a big surprise. The 30-year-old Argentine has plunged to No. 95 in the rankings and his 2023 record was a disastrous 5-14 heading into Roland Garros. Schwartzman has not even defeated anyone in the top 20 since Barcelona in April of 2022, losing 11 consecutive such matches.
This should be a rout in favor of the fifth-ranked Tsitsipas.
