Jack Draper and Novak Djokovic played without question one of the points of the year in their BNP Paribas Open fourth-round match on Wednesday night.
With Djokovic serving at 30-all in the first game of the third set, both players were running all over the court amidst a wide variety of incredible shots before the 38-year-old Serb finally got the best of it.
Djokovic ended up holding a marathon game for 1-0 in the decider, but Draper eventually won the match 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) after two hours and 35 minutes.
“I came out here tonight and I won that match through determination and trying to problem solve and do my best and have a great attitude,” Draper said during an on-court interview.
The Brit failed to serve out the match at 5-4, but he delivered a clutch hold at 5-6 and won the ensuing tiebreaker from a mini-break down.
“I’m proud of the way I regrouped,” he assured. “I haven’t been playing on the tour (in) a long time, so to put away guys who are top players, it’s something that comes with confidence. It was a tough moment for me, but again, something I’m getting used to since coming back. And I regrouped really well. That’s something I can be really proud of.”
