Djokovic, Alcaraz on same side of Monte-Carlo Masters draw

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are on a collision course for the semifinals at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters after the draw ceremony was held on Friday.

Djokovic and Alcaraz find themselves in an otherwise unspectacular top half of the bracket, which also includes defending champion Andrey Rublev. However, Rublev is coming off a rough Sunshine Double during which he won a grand total of one match across Indian Wells and Miami. The Russian is a potential quarterfinal opponent for Djokovic, while Alcaraz could face Casper Ruud in the quarters.

An on-fire Jannik Sinner headlines the bottom half of the draw. The Italian has climbed to No. 2 in the world for the first time thanks in part to titles this season at the Australian Open, ATP 500 in Rotterdam, and Miami Masters.

Sinner has to like the fact that he avoided Alcaraz on his side, but the 22-year-old’s road to the Monte-Carlo final is otherwise difficult. Either Sebastian Korda or former finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be first up for Sinner and that section of the bracket also includes 2023 runner-up Holger Rune, recent Miami runner-up Grigor Dimitrov, and clay-court specialist Sebastian Baez. Daniil Medvedev’s quarter also features two-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, Karen Khachanov, Gael Monfils, and Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
