The Australian Open draw ceremony was held on Thursday afternoon at Melbourne Park. Novak Djokovic landed in Jannik Sinner’s half, setting up a potential semifinal showdown between the 10-time winner and the two-time defending champion.
It is an intriguing draw for Sinner all around, as the second-ranked Italian could face Joao Fonseca in the third round. Familiar foe Ben Shelton is a potential quarterfinal opponent for Sinner. Shelton, however, has a rough first-round matchup with Ugo Humbert on his hands.
Elsewhere in the bottom half of the bracket, Grigor Dimitrov and Tomas Machac are paying a steep price for being unseeded. They are going head-to-head in round one, with the winner likely to meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round and Lorenzo Musetti in the last 32. That quarter is also home to Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Jakub Mensik, and dangerous unseeded floater Hubert Hurkacz.
At the top of the draw, Carlos Alcaraz seemingly has a friendly road through Melbourne as he bids for his first Australian Open title. The world No. 1 could face Sebastian Korda in round three and either Tommy Paul or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last 16. Alex de Minaur, Alexander Bublik, and Frances Tiafoe are possible quarterfinal opponents.
Alexander Zverev’s section is wide open. Other challengers include Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev, and Andrey Rublev. Zverev will kick off his fortnight against one of the best unseeded players in the field, Gabriel Diallo. Rublev will also be on red alert right from the start, as he gets underway against Matteo Arnaldi.

who ya got?
The safe bet would be a Sinner Alcaraz final, unless Djokovic plays the match of his life YAWN, or someone has a Cheung moment, [ whatever happened to him], one amazing Soderling type moment then gone 🙄

Dojo winning again would be amazing but I’m realistic
Don’t think he has the fitness to go all the way now…
Obviously a factor old age
Glad to have WTA info….and that Shelton-Humbert opener could be trouble for Ben. Pretty good draw for Carlos.
