Auger-Aliassime manhandles Tsitsipas in Indian Wells

Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime pocketed his first bit big upset in the California desert with a surprisingly easy win over world No. 10 Stefanos Tsitsipas at the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday.

Felix Auger-Aliassime finds himself in the third round of one of the biggest tennis tournaments on the ATP calendar. Better, he jus took out the highest seed in his section of the draw, so his prospects are rather good. The 18-year-old pummeled Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-2 in an impressive display of power baseline tennis.

Tsitsipas started off a little shaky. The Greek was broken early in the first set and had a half-dozen chances to get the break back in Auger-Aliassime’s next service game but he was unable to convert. The missed chances seemed to set the tone for the match. Auger-Aliassime held on to close out the first set with a one-break advantage.

Tsitsipas looked like he might right the ship a bit at the start of the second set, but he again dropped serve early. Auger-Aliassime found himself in a spot of trouble serving at 3-2, when at 40-15 the Canadian donated three double-faults in a row to give Tsitisipas a break point. Not to be outdone, the Greek (who already lost two challenges that game) stopped the point on break point to challenge a third time. He was wrong, and thus lost the point. Auger-Aliassime went on to hold.

The missed chances rattled Tsitsipas, who lost the next two games with shaky, tentative play. The youngster awaits the winner of Roberto Bautista Agut or Yoshihito Nishioka in the third round.
