American Tommy Paul takes on former roommate Reilly Opelka as second-round competition heats up at the Adelaide ATP 250 on Wednesday. No. 4 seed Tallon Griekspoor will also be in action against France’s Ugo Humbert.
(2) Tommy Paul vs. Reilly Opelka
American Tommy Paul knows his second-round opponent very well. He lived with compatriot Reilly Opelka for years, with the two men sharing a house together in Florida. Strangely, they have only played once before at a tour-level event — last year in Dallas. Paul won in straight sets. Paul is still looking for his first win of 2026. The world No. 21 entered Brisbane last week, but he was dispatched in the first round by France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Opelka isn’t really an opponent that other players enjoy seeing across the net. The 28-year-old is an inch shy of seven-feet tall and he has just the serve you might associate with a player that big. There’s bound to be a tiebreaker or two, but Paul is far more consistent off the ground than his 62nd-ranked opponent.

(4) Tallon Griekspoor vs. Ugo Humbert
Ugo Humbert got his first win of the season over fellow Frenchman Terence Altmane in the first round in Adelaide. He won a title at the tail end of the year last year and closed out the 2025 with a run to the semifinals in Basel. He will look to pick up where he left off in his second-round match against the Adelaide No. 4 seed Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutchman hasn’t had a winning start to the season. He lost both of his matches at the United Cup last week; he had a first-round bye this week, so his match against Humbert is his first in Adelaide.
Griekspoor and Humbert split wins at one each in their previous encounters. Griekspoor had a good start to the season in 2025, but he struggled in the second half of the year. While Griekspoor is ranked higher at No. 25 compared to Humbert’s 36th, the left-hander is generally in better form.
