My Grand Slam predictions heading into the 2025 season were mostly successful. With the year now in the rearview mirror, it’s time to take a look back at where things went right — or where they went wrong.
Australian Open
Pick: Novak Djokovic
Result: Jannik Sinner
Djokovic actually had a good year, reaching the semifinals at all four majors. Unfortunately for the 38-year-old (and for my Aussie Open pick), Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were a bridge too far to cross. I had Alexander Zverev finishing runner-up, so at least that Melbourne prediction turned out to be correct.
French Open
Pick: Carlos Alcaraz
Result: Carlos Alcaraz
My run of three consecutive correct picks began in Paris, although it was not without a sweat — the most significant sweat of the entire season, in fact. Alcaraz famously came back from triple-championship point down before outlasting Sinner in a fifth-set tiebreaker. Sinner finishing runner-up was also a bullesye.
Wimbledon
Pick: Jannik Sinner
Result: Jannik Sinner
Although Sinner — and this pick — needed an assist from Grigor Dimitrov in the third round, it was a well-deserved success. Aside from two sets against Dimitrov in the fourth round, the Italian was the best player from start to finish at the All-England Club. I had Jack Draper as the runner-up, which looked like a promising longshot play earlier in the season…until injuries once again derailed the Brit.
U.S. Open
Pick: Carlos Alcaraz
Result: Carlos Alcaraz
I nailed Alcaraz winning two majors in 2025 — and in the exact locations. His second triumph was mostly routine, including over Sinner in the final. Admittedly, though, Daniil Medvedev was my runner-up selection. The 2021 U.S. Open winner finally heated up toward the end of the year, but he was a complete disaster at all four Grand Slams.

I had Alcaraz /Sinner finals throughout my brackets, only got the winner right in Aussie and Roland Garros . I guess I got the others wrong way round after the manner of Sinners defeat at RG (how would he recover from that) then it swung the other way again on Sinners best surface .

You almost got it right Ricky, I’ve always felt that the USO is the most difficult one to predict, people don’t tend to repeat on winning this GS, the most open slam
Just remembered, I did sort of predict Sinner was going to bounce back and win Wimby.Like great players do this , it’s why they’re great . It was a comment to Gill Gross who ended up featuring it when Sinner did win.
