One game, six underarm serves by Bublik in Lyon semifinal loss

Alexander Bublik did Alexander Bublik things in the semi-finals of the Open Parc on Friday afternoon in Lyon.

To be more specific, the 26-year-old Kazakh hit six underarm serves in a single game during a 6-4, 7-5 loss to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Amazingly enough, Bublik actually held serve in that game–at 1-3 in the first set–from 0-40 down. He saved each of the first three break points with underarm deliveries, lost a deuce point on a return winner by Mpetshi Perricard, lost an ad point on another return winner, and finally converted a game point when the 6’8” Frenchman missed a backhand return wide.

Mpetshi Perricard, 20, will face Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the Lyon final on Saturday. Both players are seeking their first ATP title.

Bublik now heads to the French Open, where he will go up against qualifier Gregoire Barrere in the first round.
