French Open R3 preview and prediction: Dimitrov vs. Altmaier

It’s never easy to follow up a monumental moment in your career by getting right back in action with little rest, but that will be the task at hand for Daniel Altmaier on Saturday at the French Open. Add in the fact that producing such a moment required five hours and 26 minutes of work and things get even more difficult.

Altmaier has made it all the way to the fourth round at Roland Garros once before (2020), but it didn’t come with the same fanfare as his dramatic five-set victory over Jannik Sinner on Thursday.

Now the 79th-ranked German has to face Grigor Dimitrov, which isn’t the worst draw in the world for the third round of a slam but also isn’t an easy one. Dimitrov is coming off a runner-up performance last week in Geneva and he has not dropped a single set so far in Paris.

Altmaier won’t go away without a fight, but all signs point toward success for the 32-year-old Bulgarian.

Pick: Dimitrov in 4
