Ricky curse too in addition to tignor..
Ricky ..has rafa won any non clay tourney when u picked him ? Curious to know
Well, given the present status of the tour players, it’s illogical to pick anyone else to win.
The only player who could have been banked upon a bit, i.e. Medvedev is having a terrible season by all accounts. He can change that by finding his feet here again. Rest of the tour doesn’t really inspire any confidence.
Sinner/Alcaraz (if they reach the SF’s) may be able to push Rafa to 5 sets, but overall he has to really like his chances with this draw.
The sample will be very small of Ricky picking Rafa to win anything off clay so it won’t tell you anything.
After seeing Rafa practice yday live, I came back home and placed more bets on him winning. I mean he was absolutely crushing the ball and it was all going in.
Only thing is he is not hitting hard served yet. Mostly sliders. That would be my only concern. But, boy that forehand was dynamite and he was practicing returning from closer to the baseline. Say some return winners too.
This is the concern Atul..how can he win without a serve ..a strong returner will take full ADV of it..eg sinner who crushes the return ,alcaraz too..
What speed is he serving at and what exactly does slider mean..just pushing it in. .what about angle placement ?
Draper over FAA?!! No way.
De Minaur over PCB. No way.
De Minaur isn’t getting to the quarters.
If Med gets to the semis he won’t lose to Fritz. The question is whether he gets there. Also Matteo is a ? I know he hasn’t been doing well but he often doesn’t and then plays a lot better in slams. So he might be there instead of Fritz. I really like Matteo so hope that is the case.
I tend to think that if Med manages to get to the semis he will make the final.
Thinking about things again maybe Med does lose to Fritz. But not in 5.
Anyway, I guessed right that Ricky would pick Fritz to the final. Some experts have got Fritz winning so it’s not that outrageous. But the points Ramara made yesterday about his slowish movement are spot on. Plus other weaknesses including he is, or recently was, #56 on the ATP leaderboards on return. That’s very low for someone to win a slam! If you are looking for someone with a big serve and forehand then Matteo does it better.
The Mole Farm twitter accounts are saying they can cope with Novak missing USO as long as Rafa loses.
Their hatred for him has reached unbelievable levels.
It’s not Rafa’s fault Novak doesn’t want to get the vax. In fact, it’s nothing whatsoever to do with him, or Fed ( they also hate Fed who is somehow also deemed responsible for Novak not playing).
Unfortunately, Novak knows some of those twitters personally and he’s often thanked them for their comments inspite of the fact that they continuously make the most vile accusations against Rafa.
I don’t care about the Mole Farm Twitter accounts. After someone posted on Twitter that Rafa had necrosis of the foot due to overuse of steroids, I just decided not to bother reading this garbage. They know it’s a lie but they don’t care. They are dangerously obsessed with Novak. It is a sickness.
The rule is that foreigners must be vaccinated to enter the country. Whether people like it or not, it is what it is. Novak knows that he can play if he gets vaccinated. The USTA couldn’t do anything because of this rule. At least they dud not maje the mistake that Australia did when they let Novak into the country. It saved us all from another melodrama.
I hope that the American tennis players can find something else to do with their time other than trash in their country. My brother-in-law got Covid. He has both vaccinations and both boosters. Fortunately, he had a mild case with no complications. Vaccines save lives! My sister didn’t get it. He has been testing positive, so he is working from home for now. Thank God for the vaccine!
Well, you can’t really blame some of them. Many Rafa Stan accounts on twitter have been vilifying Nole and spewing their hatred towards him unwarrantedly. No wonder, Nole fans are upset.
The big Novak twitter accounts have been completely insane retweeting praise for Novak from endless far right and antivaxx accounts.
They vilify countless people. Not only Rafa and Fed but they also hate Martina and Billie Jean King.
The stuff they come up with is completely deranged.
I wish I could find time to look at some of these Twitter accounts like the ‘Mole Farm’* one but have too much work to do in the real world.
*Is there an equivalent one for Rafa fans?
Where is Nole Farm?! You said such a place really exists! Am curious to know where.
I don’t see Draper of FAA.Felix has not been in great form lately, but he could play himself into better for, I am not sure about that one. Med losing to Fritz? I don’t know about that one. Med can play himself into good form here. I see that Ricky has Kyrgios going out before meeting Med. That would be a break for Med.
I am not at all sure about Fritz fir the final. I know Ricky has been high on Fritz. He has had a great year. I hoped he would manage to break through. But the weaknesses in his game that have been discussed here are very real. I said before that I am not sure he is ready to win a slam.
I am not at all sure about De Minaur over PCB. PCB has been playing well and is a two time semifinalist here. Alcaraz in five over Coric. So Ricky doesn’t see Coric going that far. That one might go either way.
I am curious to see how Berrettini will do here. Can he play well enough to go deep? I think he could beat Tsitsipas.
This is interesting . Fingers crossed rafa wins uso n the year end no 1

Bold move to pick Rafa….but it’s NOT going to happen!….could be Sinner, Med, Coric, or Tpas.
Really?
Hmm… picking guys who never won a slam over the guy who has won 22?
It’s a joke. Not only has Rafa won 22 slams, he’s won the USO the most times in the last 12 years (4 times ), beating Djokovic twice and Medvedev once in the final. Rafa also won it the last time he played it in 2019.
I absolutely agree with you! That’s why I said something. The emphasis on NOT is really what got to me. Nobody is Nostradamus here.
Someone can say likely not going to happen or may not happen..imagine saying NOT going to happen with authority and CAPS..that too sitting behind a keyboard 🙂
Tsitsipas hasn’t historically played well at the USO. I don’t consider him a legitimate threat for the title. Coric is dangerous (obviously) and Med is always a threat, though I think he’s off-form a bit.
PCB may be dangerous.
I wouldn’t write a player like Tsitsipas off simply because he hasn’t done well at the USO in the past beacuse he’s got weapons – a great serve for a start.
Rafa was written off the USO for many years, people saying he would never win it because of this that and the other. But Rafa has won it more times in the last 12 years than anyone else and he is only one title behind Connors, Sampras and Federer. Federer hasn’t won it in 12 years and he was always the favourite. Granted he’s missed 3 since 2020 but he’d only missed one up to that since he turned pro.
In a knockout tournamnet, you lose a match and it’s over. It’s not like the WTF where you don’t have to win every match to win the tournamnet. If you have a bad day or an opponent on fire, you’re out most of the time.
I can’t get behind Tsitsipas because he has been so inconsistent. He has the weapons and the game to contend at slams. But there are other things you need to win. His lack of effort in the Cincy final in the second set was really uncomfortable to watch.
I know that Luckystar was very impressed with Tsitsipas when he arrived. She predicted big things for him. But he has not looked that hood this year. Disappointing result at RG where he was a finalist last year. His record in finals overall is poor.
Maybe he can get it together. There can be surprises at slams, which is why I don’t ever like to make absolute statements about anyone’s chances. I certainly would not write off someone like Rafa .
Not looked that GOOD this year*
With a name like that, always dangerous.
Semis at least .
I think its going to be the most unpredictable US Open for a while no matter how many Slams a player has won. Injury, conditions , all play their part
You can’t make this shit up, Ricky picks a dud again in Fritz.
