A look at Week 1 in 2017: Doha, Brisbane, and Chennai

The 2017 season will begin with a bang on Monday, Jan. 2, when action kicks off in Doha, Brisbane, and Chennai. Every one of the top six players in the world is scheduled to take the court, and Gael Monfils is the only one of the top 12 on the sidelines.

Novak Djokovic and Milos Raonic will defend their titles at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open and the Brisbane International, respectively. Stan Wawrinka, who has won the Aircel Chennai Open in each of the past three seasons, is taking his talents to Brisbane. That could leave the Chennai door open for Marin Cilic, who lifted the trophy there in 2009 and 2010.

Djokovic is joined in the Doha field by world No. 1 Andy Murray in addition to Tomas Berdych, David Goffin, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Raonic and Wawrinka will have plenty of competition in Brisbane, where Kei Nishikori, Dominic Thiem, and Rafael Nadal are also in board. Chennai is once again the weakest of the trio, but Cilic could be tested by Roberto Bautista Agut, Benoit Paire, and Borna Coric.
