Six different women have won the last six U.S. Opens. In the last 11 years, only Naomi Osaka has won it twice (2018 and 2020). Moreover, three different women have won the first three Grand Slams of the 2025 season–Madison Keys (Australian Open), Coco Gauff (French Open), and Iga Swiatek (Wimbledon). Even though Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka are the obvious favorites in New York, there is plenty of parity on the WTA Tour right now.
Will either Swiatek or Sabalenka lift the trophy, or will one of the challengers come out on top? Gauff, Keys, Mirra Andreeva, and Elena Rybakina are among those who could be in the mix to make life difficult on the favorites.
Here are my best bets on the women’s side at the 2025 U.S. Open.
Iga Swiatek (+280)
Swiatek may never be dominant on any surface other than clay, but she is currently looking like the best player in the world regardless of surface. The 24-year-old Pole triumphed at Wimbledon for the first time earlier this summer, when she was dominant. Heck, she destroyed Amanada Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in the final. She is also coming off a Premier 100 hard-court title in Cincinnati. Moreover, Swiatek has a favorable draw with Sabalenka and Rybakina among those in the other half. A second U.S. Open title seems very possible.
Mirra Andreeva (+1200)
Andreeva has cooled off a bit in 2025 and fellow teenager Victoria Mboko took the WTA Tour by storm with a title in Montreal a few weeks ago. That leaves the 18-year-old Russian flying somewhat under the radar in New York. It could work in her favor. The pressure isn’t entirely off, but it’s not like it was throughout much of the 2024 campaign. Of equal importance is that the bracket sets her up perfectly to make a deep run. Andreeva would not face Sabalenka until the semifinals and Swiatek until the final.
Madison Keys (+2200)
Keys can lose to basically anyone on any given day, but she can also beat anyone. Her huge-hitting game is of a high-risk, high-reward nature that can result in either extreme. We have already seen the good side of Keys this season, when she lifted her first Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open. Now she gets to play in front of the home crowd, where she reached the U.S. Open final in 2017 (lost to fellow American Sloane Stephens). Keys has a pretty nice draw in Gauff’s section. That isn’t always a good thing, but Gauff is extremely vulnerable at the moment given her serving woes.

Can see Ryba beating Saba. But Ryba Swiatek would be a good final. Ryba could beat Swiatek.
Ryb certainly capable of it but she unreliable. Saba not herself either and Swiatek on another planet .
