  1. Slow burn: Roger Federer takes swipe at Rafael Nadal:

Federer believes the sport is in danger of losing support and its appeal to TV viewers by the length of time it takes some players to serve at the start of a point.

“I just think it’s important that we, as players, play up to speed and don’t exceed the time limit, because what I don’t want is that we lose viewers because we play too slow,” he said.
“I know you need to focus. That you can do in 10 seconds. Just can’t be that we only see two points per minute. I just feel like we need to keep up the pace and obviously play according to the rules.
The Swiss star added: “I did watch some matches, but they were playing so slow I was like, Okay, I really can’t watch it.”

    What an ass.

20 second rule has NEVER been enforced although historically many players exceeded it, McEnroe and Courier well over 20 seconds frequently in the two slam matches below.

This is all because Nadal is getting close to Rogers major total, nothing else. Shot clocks. What a joke.

With Wawrinka and Isner on the player council, Queen Roger will surely get his wish.

In the shorter term, the only reason he brings this up at Wimbledon is to put pressure on the umpires to call violations on Nadal to throw him of his game when they meet in the semis.

Just more gamesmanship from the supposedly “classy” Federer. Sheer desperation.

Nadal lets his racquet do the talking. True class.

    Hilarious!

  2. What a load of selfish gamesmanship shiite:

Earlier on Centre Court the Spaniard’s beaten opponent Lukas Rosol had suggested that Nadal had taken up to a minute between points in a bid to slow the game down.

That sort of behaviour, according to Federer, is completely unfair and could end up destroying tennis as a spectator sport.

He claimed to be the only person in SW19 not to know it is Nadal who is the worst offender, but no prizes for guessing whose game will be under a more intense scrutiny from umpires after this eloquent diatribe.

“Was Nadal going slow? 25 seconds? What’s the rule? 20? Okay, that’s not so cool then,” Federer slowly conceded.

“I mean I know you need to focus, but that you can do in 10 seconds. I feel that we need to keep up the pace and play by the rules.

    • Exactly! She has also said in the past that Nadal is her favorite player. A Fedal lover is definitely a loser in my book.

      • @filter, take some time to read this please:

RT @dalepartridge: “No one has ever made himself great by showing how small someone else is.”

  3. Does this even need to be asked anymore? Could only happen on Roger-X (even Ruan is not THAT dumb)…

Fedal Wars: Who’ll Finish Higher Ranked In 2014, Roger Federer Or Rafael Nadal?
    by Sean Randall | July 24th, 2014, 12:39 pm

    • ^^There’s method to Sean’s madness. He is not entirely stupid. He needs traffic and the sure-fire way to generate that is to mention…………………Rafa!

    • Hahaha, federazzi are so easy! The following was my contribution to the aforementioned blog on Fed-x blog and voila! my message was allowed in;

“Drivel. Thank goodness I’ve been banned from Tennis-x, sorry, Fed-x blog…………”

  4. Federer on Bouchard:

“We met the first time back in 2009, when she won the juniors title here” said Roger about Bouchard. “She is a player with a very good attitude. She doesn’t cheer herself up after every single point, which is something that I really don’t like, so I appreciate the fact that she doesn’t do it. She seems a very normal girl. I really hope for her that she is going to be able to win the major tournaments in the near future” finished the 17 Grand Slam champion.

    A dig at rafa?

    • I don’t think Rafa cheers himself up after every point…he certainly stopped doing the scissor kick-fist pump combo a while back. I’m thinking Ana Ivanovic, Caro, Maria…it seems they win the point and do a fist pump. Ana even does a piroutte-fist pump that’s comical.

      • ^^the point is Fed wrote the Bible on tennis etiquette. Funny thing is, it’s full of things he does NOT approve of! No grunting, no going over the time limit, no fist-pumping after every point………negative, much?

Can’t wait for the Bible on what he approves of. So tired of his endless negativity……..

      • I have already written that Fed doesn’t approve SELECTIVE grunting. 😆

Sports World News on Jan 25, 2014: ¤¤ Multiple media sites reported that Federer complained twice to umpire Jake Garner about Nadal’s grunting during the second set [at the 2014 AO].
Asked whether Nadal’s grunting bothered him, Federer said, “Not when he does it every point, but it goes in phases — one point he DOES and one point he DOESN’T; that’s what I was complaining about.”¤¤

      • Oh sorry Gussie, it’s not that Fed minds grunting, its the grunting after EVERY point that he does not like, the fist-pumping after EVERY point that he does not like. Finally, I get it………

      • ritb,

Fed does have positive points in his tennis bible. Five positive commandments on one of the two tablets, five negative commandments on the other one.

        1. Thou shalt rig nearly all slam draws in favor of The Only One.

        2. Thou shall make sure that at each slam The Only One plays on the first day, unless occasionally he prefers it differently.

        3. Thou shall rig the draws for a number of non-slam tournaments in favor of The Only One.

        4. Thou shall speed up or slow down courts if and when requested by The Only One (but not quite always, let this not be too obvious).

        5. If you are a professional commentator or journalist thou shall be permanently biased in favor of The Only One, and permanently biased against the Only One to hamper the Immortality of The Only One (but not quite always, let this not be too obvious.)

  5. I bet Fed wishes Rafa had taken up football instead. The only thing is, had Rafa not come along, tennis would have given up the ghost and died a slow death with Fed winning everything under the sun with his boring game.

  6. Federer fans attend his practices with a variety of gear, though mostly his trademark caps. Ever the tactful capitalist, he told reporters last week that “there is an opportunity for the fan to maybe feel more related to me, more closer to tennis and to me. Then when I do see so many fans showing up with the apparel, I feel closer to it, naturally.”

We just need to remember two more negative commandments for the other tablet (stone, not silicone). Anyone?
