Here is what Uncle Toni had to say on 18 Jun:
*Rough translation:
” Nadal comes to Wimbledon better than last year, he rested more than he thought for his early exit in Halle. This rest is crucial and it is important for the knees start to this tournament. He’s better with his knees, but he still back problems, and serve well is essential in this tournament. ”
Who will win Wimbledon? Toni’s answer:
“The Grass is always the favorite Murray , then there are Djokovic and Federer . should not be underestimated even the emerging Raonic and Dimitrov .
If Rafa is good is definitely one of the favorites in the last five years, not counting the last two with physical problems , he played five finals, winning two of them.
It ‘a tournament that plays very well if it is in good shape, his favorite after Roland Garros, we’ll see. ”
One last comment on the binomial Murray-Mauresmo :
“I was very surprised, it is normal to be so, because it is not a usual thing.
It ‘obvious that Mauresmo has the ability to follow anyone, but the fact that a woman could be a problem. For example, he can not enter into locker room before the game, but if Murray has made โโthis choice because he knows he can draw positives, after Amelie has extensive experience both as a player and as a coach! “
“…………. For example, he can not enter into locker room before the game,”
I alluded to this complication in earlier conversations I had with @nadline10. So it is a real issue, may not be significant to the overall coaching dynamic, but it exists.
Rafa;s 2nd round opponent could be Rosol and his 4th round could be against Karlovic. Tough draw for Rafa. On the other hand, good opportunity for Rafa to avenge his loss against Rosol.
The 1st section of Rafa’s draw could be better but should he make it out of there the rest will be much less stressful. Rafa now knows what to expect from Rosol and Rosol will not be able to reproduce that same intensity again. If he could repeat it he’d be in the top 10 now, at least.
Rafa beat Rosol in Doha this year. I saw it live and Rafa was not at his best then……….far from it.
Nobody in his path to the SF would pose a major problem for a fit, healthy Rafa. IF his back plays up his serve will be affected. Not good news on grass ๐
I’m keeping my expectations low for the time being.

oh, Rafa, such a terrible draw for him…

Nadal’s draw LOL
Ricky (at 9:50 am)
Fed also must be exited about Rafa’s draw.
Ferrer and Stan might not even play as they are both on the sick list atm.
