  1. I guess the point is that Becker had already been approached by Djoker. Hence his comment about Rafa deserving to lose the WTF final. Giving props to his new employer?

    That’s just dumb.

  2. The world’s number one poker player — who humiliated himself by losing to Rafael Nadal in a live charity poker tourney — is crying beginner’s luck … and now he wants a rematch ASAP, TMZ Sports has learned.

We spoke with Daniel Nagreanu … who says he’s still in shock that the world’s top ranked tennis player publicly whooped his ass in Prague last week … but he tells us, it was fate (and not skill) that lost him the game.

Nagreanu says “he got 2 lucky hands” … and “that’s the only reason why he beat me.”

For the record — Rafa had only been playing poker online for 18 months before the tournament … and it was his first time playing in front of a crowd.

As for a rematch … nothing’s been officially set, but Daniel told us “I’m down and ready to go for a rematch! I’d win this time. Obviously. I’m suppose to win every time”

No reaction yet from Nadal … he’s probably too busy dominating whatever else he’s doing.

    • Nagreanu’s response may have been something similar to what Roger felt that day in Miami in March of 2004 when he faced a 17 yr old Mallorcan kid for the first time (on a hardcourt, no less) and was beaten in straight sets. Probably thought the kid got lucky.

  3. Please VOTE for Rafa’s coach!

And pay attention to HOW the biased polls are made! Compare the names in the ‘Tweeter of the Year’ poll to the list of the most followed players on Twitter.
FOLLOWERS on Twitter on 5.12.2013 and 22.12.2013:
    Rafa – 5,460,887 and 5,506,914 (growth 46,027)
    Djoko – 2,568,675 and 2,600,914 (growth 32,239)
    Muzza – 2,269,817 and 2,289,342 (growth 19,525)
    Delpo – 1,733,666 and 1,756,313 (growth 22,647)
    Fed – 1,126,206 and 1,162,863 (growth 36,657)

  4. The lies, the subliminal messaging continues, following on the ITF’s naming Novak as World Champion:

    http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/12/becker-quits-gig-bbc-commentator/50041/

“Boris Becker, now the head coach of world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, has quit his job as BBC commentator because of potential conflicts of interest. Becker has worked for the BBC during Wimbledon since 2002:”

Now that it’s clear Fed is on a downward spiral, everything must be done to big up Djokovic, Rafa must not be allowed to claim the limelight…..

  5. OK, I don’t follow all these awards that closely. So what is this ITF award about? They named Djoker as the Player of the Year? I thought Player of the Year was voted on by the players?

  6. What Rafa said after his victory in Sopot was interesting. Little did he know what heights he’d reach:

“I needed a tournament win like this after my injury. I just hope that it’s not the last one. After this tournament, I’ll be in the Top 50. To see me in 70th place after being 30th before my injury, it wasn’t easy”, Rafa said.

  7. Rafa was “dressed head to toe in Hackett” at the ATP world No.1 trophy ceremony. I don’t know anything about this company, but they did a great job – Rafa looked elegant.
¤¤ Hackett London Helps Style Rafael Nadal. 23 Dec 2013
Rafael Nadal picked up the honours of being world No.1 (and the Trophy that goes with it)…dressed head to toe in Hackett. …
The tennis ace collected his trophy in front of a packed and appreciative crowd swapping his more recognizable shorts and t-shirt for a more stylish pale grey Hackett Mayfair suit, classic white shirt and burgundy tie.
Hackett’s association with dressing today’s tennis stars is well known, having dressed the ATP Tour finalists in the past as well as the Spanish Davis Cup team (including Nadal and David Ferrer).¤¤

    • ^^^I hope you have learned the error of your ways. Please don’t be like some deluded fools who are predicting Fed finishing 2014 ahead of Rafa………….I mean, Fedz please…

    • ^^ Long term predictions can be difficult, so I won’t hold it against you, Ricky. Who knew that Andy would have surgery, that Tipsy would fall to 36 in the rankings, or that Roger wouldn’t win anything more than a single 250 tournament? Still, #7? Frankly, I was just happy to see Rafa back on the courts.

      • I was quite surprised that Ricky picked Rafa to finish 7th. It’s true that we couldn’t know how Rafa would do coming back from seven months off, but I wasn’t that pessimistic.

I just tried to stay in the moment when Rafa came back. His return exceeded all our expectations.

  8. Ricky, are you a comedian or something? I’m splitting my sides with your 2013 predictions.

“Tomas Berdych – Berdych should be able to pass Nadal in the rankings after the Australian Open and remain ahead of him until the end of 2013.

. Rafael Nadal – A top three finish for Nadal is already out of the question, but he could finish anywhere from No. 4 to……outside the Top 100? ”

    Hahahhahahahahahahaha!

  9. Merry Christmas Ricky!

Merry Christmas to ALL Tenngrand posters and contributors!

Eat, drink be merry, be thankful for your loved ones.

  10. Unbelievable! I read on one of Rafa fans site that Tennis-X has awarded Rafa!
    Excerpts.
    ¤¤ 2013 Tennis-X Awards: Rafael Nadal…
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR — Rafael Nadal
Plagued by chronic knee problems, the Spanish former (and now again-current) No. 1 looked done for 2013 when he took the last few months of 2012 off, and the respite extended into February of this year.
Would he come back at all? Would he come back, but only play on the forgiving clay courts? No one foresaw Rafa not only coming back full steam, but compiling perhaps the greatest abbreviated season in men’s tennis history.

MATCH OF THE YEAR — Rafael Nadal d. Novak Djokovic (French Open SF)
The year 2013 put a bit of a mental hurting on Djokovic, who watched a solid year snatched away from him as Nadal stole the year-end No. 1 ranking in the final month. Hiring Boris Becker as your coach in 2014? Not exactly reeking of desperation, but…eh.
The 2013 Roland Garros semifinal between Nadal and Djokovic was a microcosm of their year, with the Serb giving his all, and the Spaniard…well, just having more. For almost five hours both players clawed and scratched with significant momentum changes.¤¤

    • ^^@augusta08, Don’t worry, after Rafa completes the Rafa Slam next year they will all be tripping over each other jumping on the Rafa-bandwagon.

The earth is not flat you know, and Rafa is the best out there…………….even haters have to acknowledge the truth.

    • augusta,

Did you read the entire article about Rafa? Because there were some very insulting and disrespectful things said, even as they gave Rafa these so-called awards. It started another fight between Rafa fans and some of the worst Fed fans like skeezer.

Mem came on there to stand up for Rafa and to take some shots at this article, written by “Staff” without any specific names for attribution.

That site will never just give Rafa an award without taking the opportunity to trash him. There were references to possible doping and some sarcastic digs at how he was able to come back from a knee injury and seven months off to have this great comeback.

Ben Pronin jumped into the discussion to throw out the usual cheap shots. That’s why I even stopped reading that site. It’s just atrocious.
