I’m watching last year’s RG final right now. To think that Rafa was world #1 this time last year. Rafa has had to cope with many adversities in his career. I really admire him for his tenacity in keeping the show on the road in spite of all he has to cope with..
¤¤ Rafa: My form looks bad but I am ready
Nine-time champion says he thinks a tenth crown can happen.
…
Some are not sure it is has been wise of Nadal to be so truthful in recent weeks about his comparative lack of form.
“I say what I feel,” he shrugged, and then added, to laughter: “I’m not going to lie if it’s not 100% necessary. You know, I’m not new here – I’ve been on the Tour for 13 years. At the end of the day, you can lie here but not on court. I don’t need to lie to create a better expectation. When I say I don’t know what’s going to happen, I mean it, that doesn’t mean I don’t have confidence in myself. I think I am ready for it. ¤¤
“The idea that you could win here seems impossible. The idea that you could lose here seems impossible. Can you believe in either outcome yourself? You are a 28-year-old with a destroyed left knee and a battered back, and Novak, who wants this title more than anything, is playing unassailable tennis. Your confidence is staggered. But you are here, where you have always been invincible. And you are always at your strongest when you believe you are about to lose.”

¤¤ 9 time French Open winner Rafael Nadal goes down memory lane at Roland Garros. Episode 3: Roland Garros in Nadal’s career.¤¤
The Rafa Nadal Foundation held its first international charity gala in Paris on Saturday, in collaboration with Richard Mille (watchmaker). 400 people were in attendance at the event, among them Eric Babolat (the boss of Babolat) and Tommy Hilfiger (fashion designer).
Rafa and Maria Francisca:
This must be a first for a tennis pro to write a book about his contemporary. Gasquet has written this book in french because he knows that there is a market for it in France because of Rafa’s popularity there.
tsk tsk, for a Montrealer you should know better how to spell the rafa word: incroyable 🙂
good for alonso, “tennis god” sums it up well
so does:
“In Spain he is the biggest sportsman probably in history,” said Alonso. “When you are a very nice guy outside the sport as Rafa is, that’s how you get the people with you and how you make the people love you.“
that “biggest in sportsman in history” is perhaps a little over the top — but not if you are an enthusiastic Spaniard — but it conveys the insight and feeling so many have

Fernando Alonso is correct. In November 2013, Rafa received the Best Spanish Athlete In History Award (voted by readers of the Spanish newspaper MARCA ). 🙂
They made imprints of his hands ( see 5:30 – 6:05 in the video):

So what??? What it has to do with F.Alonso’s words about Rafa???
one of the main shamans in the Rock underworld in his time …
rogan p. taylor is a professor whose specialty is the sociology of soccer in Brittain
yet he also wrote an outstanding book on the subject of why it is that we are so fascinated, mesmerized by all manner of shows, show-biz, including rock and many other forms all around us … and how that relates to the shamans that were members of possible every pre-historical group
even though he does not write about sports at all in the book, if I remember correctly, much of what he writes applies equally to our fascination, our mesmerization by sports
RG being one good example of said mesmerization
the connection between the two pictures / topics above is stronger than it might seem
Did you guys read this? Roger was as usual diplomatic and said a lot without explicitly saying anything but Stan? Seriously Rafa, you should stop practising with Stan, he is nobodys friend.
Why has this come as a surprise to the media and the players. Nadal told Bernardes on court that he didn’t want him to take any of his matches again because he had had enough and Bernardes hasn’t umpired him since. That was way back in February.
If you make someone undress on court in front of millions of viewers all over the world, that’s disrespect.

come on rafa!

Fans are everywhere

So much for the French hating Rafa. I guess his detractors will still find some reason to stick to their bias against Rafa.
How much has rafa’s service motion evolved over the years. Wow…
Richard Gasquet has written a book about Rafa!

My goodness, Xisca is such a stunner! Beautiful dress.
Lovely couple.
Prefer her anyday in the minimalistic make up look when she watches his matches.
Simplistic looks always rule over heavy make up :-)..atleast for me 🙂
Sanju (at 4:38 pm),
She wore modest makeup:

Merci buckets cloro mais hélas je ne suis pas de Montréal.
C’est dommage.
but don’t you now live in Montreal? if not, where in Quebec?
No I like to visit when the men are in Montreal every other year.
I am from the maritimes. (gussie-bot will add this to her database friend and will have me triangulated before nightfall – I must be careful!!!) 🙂
from the maritimes… you are kinder, gentler soul then…

he is arguably the best in Spanish history… and you probably don’t have to argue hard at all… and that’s amazing
there are a few other countries in the world that also have produced a few pretty good athletes over the course of their history 🙂

It’s ok chloro. It’s better than some here having RF on the brain (for lack of a better term). 🙂
