Vamos Vesely!! So happy for that guy. Problem for him is his next match is Monfils. I feel like Monfils always takes advantage of these kind of openings in draws so I’m afraid la monf is gonna end Jiri’s run. Gael is crushing Lorenzi like 4-0 in the first set and he is a pretty bad matchup to have after a huge win like Vesely’s because he makes so many balls. It’ll be tough for Jiri to back it up plus Monfils is gonna have a lot more in the tank physically and mentally. I’m thinking if Monfils beats Lorenzi he will get the job done relatively comfortably against Vesely. Typically I would be a bit more for Monfils but after Vesely’s win I’m kinda pulling for him to back up that monumental victory.
Tomas Berdych: World number eight pulls out of Olympic Games
World number eight Tomas Berdych has pulled out of next month’s Olympic Games in Rio because of concerns about the Zika virus.
Berdych, 30, lost in the Wimbledon semi-final to eventual winner Andy Murray earlier this month.
“It was a hard decision for me to take after a long and painstaking discussion with my dearest,” said Berdych.
The Czech is the third tennis player after Simona Halep and Milos Raonic to withdraw from the Olympics.
More than 20 male players have withdrawn from the golf competition at Rio 2016, with many concerned about the mosquito-borne virus Zika, which is linked to brain deformities in newborn babies.
Berdych said on Twitter: “It is purely my personal decision but I still feel a need to give at least one of the serious reasons leading to this step to my supporters and fans.
“It is because of the Zika virus spread in the country of the Olympics. As I have founded a family recently, to limit health risks towards my nearest is the utmost priority.
“I apologise to all of you who are disappointed by my decision. I do believe that if you take a deeper account of my reasons you will understand that I have done it out of the responsibility for my family.”
The United States’ John Isner has pulled out to focus on his preparations for tour events, while Nick Kyrgios will not be involved because of a dispute with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).
It’s not like fatal or anything. It wears off in a few days to a few weeks. It’s rashes and fever and stuff like that. It sucks to have it but it’s not long lasting or anything super serious. At least that’s what I found when I looked it up on Google.
Thanks Benny. I suppose pregnant women should stay away. As Raonic , Berdych and others are quoting it as the reason, I got worried as they must be having access to the best medical advice. But then so must our big 4. I guess I should worry if one of them also pulls out.
