  1. Hawkeyes: The reason is, unlike Djokovic, Murray isn’t treating impending fatherhood as a world shattering event and an opportunity for endless sound bites – vis. “tennis will no longer be my priority…..my wife and son are more important” blah, blah

Looking forward to DC next weekend. It’ll make a welcome change to watch during daylight hours.

interesting background to the decision to drop Kyrgios

  2. You know the Weak Era 2.0 has arrived when the second favourite to win the next slam has made just one final in his last nine slams and hasn’t won a slam in over two years..

      • I didn’t think so but then who should? He did make the final last year and is No. 2 in the Race ATM.

I wouldn’t necessarily put Fed as second favourite, and even if he was, that would just make the case for WE 2.0 even stronger.

At 14:1 odds currently and 5th favourite, I’d wager some money on Vava to take Australia. Those are good odds.

  3. Andy has six singles DC wins so he needs just one more and a GB win to clinch No. 2 year end.

I didn’t realize that there is a performance bonus available if he wins seven DC matches and he already has six.

    Vamos Andeeeeeeee!!!!!

  4. I forgot that it was being played in Belgium. It’s the worst possible time for players to have to go there. Obviously, there is some credible information about some terrorist plan.

The ESPN commies said that Andy only needs one win in DC to clinch the year end #2 ranking. Of course, I hope the Brits win! 🙂

    • It’s more than credible information. Brussels is in lock-down. The DC final is at Ghent on the coast some 56km outside Brussels so it would be feasible for the British contingent to go by road and avoid passing through Brussels. It’s too late in the day to alter the venue.

  5. Yes, I heard that Brussels is in lock-down. Something must be up. I didn’t know exactly where the location for the DC was in Belgium. I can’t understand the distance in km, only miles. So I can’t gauge how far away Ghent is from Brussels. But if they can go by road and not go through Brussels, then that sounds better. I have to imagine that they will take into consideration what is going on and plan accordingly.

What a world we live in. That people even have to think like this in their lives.

    • 56km = approx 35 miles

It was awesome to see the thousands of younger people defiantly singing and dancing in the streets of Paris at 9.20pm on Friday in rememberance of those who lost their lives one week before. They have set the tone for their contempories in Europe so I wasn’t surprised to read that Andy says he will carry on normally and not allow the terrorist threats to interfere. Easier said than done.

      • ed,

Thanks for the conversion to miles. I did see the young people singing and dancing in the streets of Paris Friday night. I love their spirit.

I did read Andy’s comment about carrying on normally, but it is easier said that done right now.

      • Frankly I struggle with the French sense of humour. They don’t do irony – their idea of being funny is to slag off the Brits and in particular me.

      • Well, there was Charlie Hebdo. But then the people who are causing lockdown in Brussels also had a problem with that.

Tim Henman was booked to bring the family to DC in Ghent but has decided against travelling.

    • @Shireling

I was discussing this with my daughter yesterday. She agrees with you how wrong I was – au contraire Parisiens have always appreciated the Flemish sense of humour.

  6. Have never rated John Llyod, whose only claim to fame was persuading Chris Evert to marrry him. His sour grapes criticism of Murray is inappropriate and untimely. Good for Henman standing up for him – he at least knows what he is talking about.

  7. I saw through John Lloyd regarding Murray ages ago. Andrew Castle is not as bad but not far behind. I think Petchey and Cowan genuinely admire Andy and are pleased about his success.

People tell me that I am a very good judge of character, I can see through people easily. That’s why I keep my friends for life whilst sometimes my husband gets friendly with people I wouldn’t give the time of day and I always turn out to be right.

  8. The other thing is, Lloyd couldn’t get Andy to play DC when he was captain because Andy felt the British team was too weak with players like Alex Bogdanovic etc who were ranked too low to compete with the mighty Spain, France, Argentina and the USA then and Andy thought he couldn’t possibly win DC on his own.

If it was possible to search here I could bring up my comment saying Lloyd’s praise of Andy is insincere.

  9. Mary
No, live in Brussels (it’s not as scary here as it looks from the outside, I event went jogging in the park today, surrounded by military police, felt very safe indeed).

  10. Davis Cup kicks off today at 12.15pm. Full coverage on BBC2 with commentaries by John Lloyd (Nadline WILL be thrilled), Jamie Baker and Johathan Overend. Presenter Sue Barker.

    #Good luck GB

    • At least there won’t be any Rusedski but at the end of the day the British tennis commentators are ALL Murray centric. Look who is talking. I am guilty of being ultra Rafa centric so I have no room to talk.

I look forward to John Lloyd’s fake Murray gushing especially after their recent spat.
